MotoWire

Legal & Disclaimers

Last updated 28 August 2026. The amber box is the whole thing in four lines; everything under it is the detail.

MotoWire is a planning aid, not a qualified opinion.

It helps design and check a motorcycle’s electrical system from what you and your manuals tell it — it cannot see your bike. A passing check means nothing we test for was found, not that a build is safe. Electrical work on a vehicle carries real risk of fire and of losing lighting or ignition while riding. Have anything you are unsure of checked by a qualified auto-electrician.

What MotoWire is, and what it is not

MotoWire is a planning and checking tool for a motorcycle’s low-voltage electrical system. It takes the parts you tell it about, the documents you give it and the answers you type in, and from those it builds a wiring diagram, sizes wire and fuses, and runs a set of rules over the result.

It is not a licensed electrical service, an inspection, a certification, an engineering sign-off, or advice about your particular machine. It has never seen your bike. Everything it produces is derived from the data in front of it, and is only ever as good as that data.

Electrical work carries real risk

  • A vehicle battery can deliver hundreds of amps into a short circuit. An unfused conductor that touches the frame can start a fire in seconds.
  • Faults in lighting or ignition can appear at speed, at night, in traffic. Losing either is a crash risk, not an inconvenience.
  • Modern machines carry electronics that are expensive and, on some models, no longer available. Reverse polarity or an over-voltage event can end an ECU.
  • Disconnect the battery before you work, take your time, and check twice before you reconnect it.

If you are not confident, employ a qualified auto-electrician. That is the correct call, not a failure — and it is what we would tell a friend.

Check every figure before you cut wire

  • Component figures come from published datasheets, manufacturer manuals and documents you upload. Any of them can be wrong, out of date, or written for a different variant of the same part.
  • The manufacturer's own current datasheet is the authority. Always. If it disagrees with us, it is right and we are wrong - and please tell us.
  • Where a figure is missing, the rules that depend on it go quiet. An absent warning is not a pass; it means we had nothing to check.
  • Reference data - wire ampacity, fuse characteristics, terminal numbering - is applied under stated assumptions about ambient temperature, bundling and installation. Your installation may not match them.

Some of what you see is generated by AI

  • Reading your manuals, extracting component specifications and drafting builds all use large language models. They can be confidently, fluently wrong.
  • The app records how each reading was corroborated against the source document, and marks what it could not confirm. Those markers are there to be read, not decoration.
  • Treat a generated build as a draft to be checked line by line, never as an answer.

Roadworthiness, compliance and insurance

  • Modifying a vehicle's electrical system can affect its roadworthiness and its compliance with the Australian Design Rules, or the equivalent where you live.
  • It can void a manufacturer's warranty, and it can affect whether an insurer pays a claim.
  • Requirements differ by state and by country, and they change.

Confirm with your insurer and your state or national road authority that they accept your modifications before riding on a public road. That responsibility is yours, and nothing in this app discharges it.

This is alpha software

  • MotoWire is in closed alpha. Features change, data models change, and things break.
  • We make no guarantee of availability, of accuracy, or of data retention. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
  • Safety rules and their thresholds are under active review by working auto-electricians. Some of them will change.

Component data and where it comes from

  • Specification values - voltages, current draws, fuse and contact ratings, gauges and dimensions - are factual measurements compiled from published sources and restated in our own structure.
  • We do not host or redistribute manufacturers' datasheets or service manuals. Where a source document is published by its owner, we link to it rather than copying it.
  • Reference tables derive from published standards and industry data, and the source is cited where the figure is used.
  • Data can be wrong. If you spot an error, correcting it in the app feeds a review queue that improves it for everybody.

Documents you upload

  • Manuals, schematics and diagrams you upload stay private to your account. They are not shown to other users and they are not published.
  • We read them to extract structured facts for your own builds. We do not republish the documents themselves.
  • By uploading a document you confirm you are entitled to hold and use that copy.
  • You can delete an uploaded document at any time, and deleting it removes it from your account.

Trademarks and third-party names

Manufacturer and marque names, model designations, part numbers and logos are the trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective owners. They appear here for one reason only: to identify which machine you are working on and which part you are fitting.

MotoWire is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or otherwise connected to any motorcycle manufacturer or component maker.

Brand mark geometry in the bike picker is taken from the Simple Icons project, published under CC0 1.0. That licence covers the files; the marks themselves remain the property of their owners and are used here nominatively.

Reporting a problem with content

If you believe something in MotoWire infringes your rights, or that data attributed to your product is wrong, tell us and we will review it promptly. Say what the content is, where in the app you found it, and how to reach you.

Send it through the enquiry form, which does not require an account.
